On 11 January 2024, the kick-off meeting for the joint project “Accompanying research for energy efficiency in industry and commerce 2.0” took place at Projektträger Jülich (PTJ). The IOB was represented there by Dominik Büschgens, Christian Schwotzer and Felix Kaiser.
Energy and resource efficiency make important contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and curbing the rising trend in companies’ resource costs. In this way, they help to secure the competitiveness of German industry. The aim of research funding to increase energy efficiency for and with German industry and commerce is to promote innovation and technological progress and thus tap into new technical and economic efficiency potential.
The project undertakes an accompanying cross-evaluation of applied energy efficiency research and its funding through the federal energy research programme in the industrial and commercial sector. The central objectives of EE4InG‑2 are to evaluate the effectiveness and benefits of selected projects in the energy research programme and to identify and assess the relevance of current and emerging technology trends and innovation topics. Based on this, recommendations for action are developed for the BMWK. In addition, EE4InG‑2 promotes the exchange of relevant players in the innovation system (industry, science, politics), for which the energy research networks and, in particular, the FNW INDG provide an established framework.
The IOB’s research work in the project focuses on analyses of current and future key technologies for efficient energy use in industry and commerce. In particular, the basic materials industry and thermal process technology will be analysed. The project will run for 4 years.
