Participation in the TOTeM50 in Piacenza

The 50th Topic Ori­en­ted Tech­ni­cal Mee­ting (TOTeM) of the Inter­na­tio­nal Fla­me Rese­arch Foun­da­ti­on (IFRF) took place in Pia­cen­za, Ita­ly, on Decem­ber 5. & 6. 2023. This was orga­ni­zed by the Ita­li­an com­mit­tee of the IFRF and held at the cam­pus of the Poly­tech­nic Uni­ver­si­ty of Milan in Pia­cen­za (Poli­tec­ni­co di Mila­no). The IOB was repre­sen­ted by Fabi­an Scheck and Jus­tin Hauch.

The event offe­red a wide-ran­ging pro­gram­me on the topic of decar­bo­ni­zing com­bus­ti­on in hard-to-aba­te sec­tors. This was high­ligh­ted in 18 spe­cia­list pre­sen­ta­ti­ons and a pos­ter ses­si­on. Among other things, the focus was on the glass indus­try and the use of hydro­gen as an alter­na­ti­ve fuel as well as the pos­si­bi­li­ties of car­bon cap­tu­re and sto­rage (CCS). Fabi­an Scheck pre­sen­ted his pos­ter to the topic:

In addi­ti­on to the pro­fes­sio­nal exch­an­ge on the cam­pus of the Poly­tech­nic Uni­ver­si­ty of Milan in Pia­cen­za, a gui­ded tour to the Buz­zi Unicem S.p.A. cement plant in Ver­nas­ca was orga­ni­zed. A spe­cial fea­ture of the plant is the ope­ra­ti­on of a pilot CCS plant down­stream of the cal­ci­ning kiln.
