13th European Electric Steelmaking Conference

The 13th Euro­pean Elec­tric Steel­ma­king Con­fe­rence was held from 3rd to 7th June, 2024 whe­re over 350 par­ti­ci­pan­ts from all over the world came tog­e­ther at the Phil­har­mo­nie Essen in Ger­ma­ny in order to dis­cuss the latest deve­lo­p­ments and tech­no­lo­gies in the field of elec­tric steel­ma­king. Our col­le­agues, Tho­mas Ech­ter­hof, Moritz Eick­hoff, Felix Kai­ser, and Sid­dha­rth Nach­an­kar had the honor of pre­sen­ting their own rese­arch and pro­jects at the con­fe­rence which was recei­ved with gre­at enthu­si­asm and fol­lo­wed by inte­res­t­ing discussions.

The con­fe­rence, which pro­vi­ded an exten­si­ve pro­gram with over 90 pre­sen­ta­ti­ons on topics such as elec­tric arc fur­nace tech­no­lo­gies, DRI/HBI mel­ting, ener­gy effi­ci­en­cy and stra­te­gies for envi­ron­men­tal­ly fri­end­ly steel­ma­king, demons­tra­ted that the elec­tric steel­ma­king rou­te will be the cen­tral buil­ding block to a cli­ma­te-neu­tral steel industry.
