The 13th European Electric Steelmaking Conference was held from 3rd to 7th June, 2024 where over 350 participants from all over the world came together at the Philharmonie Essen in Germany in order to discuss the latest developments and technologies in the field of electric steelmaking. Our colleagues, Thomas Echterhof, Moritz Eickhoff, Felix Kaiser, and Siddharth Nachankar had the honor of presenting their own research and projects at the conference which was received with great enthusiasm and followed by interesting discussions.
The conference, which provided an extensive program with over 90 presentations on topics such as electric arc furnace technologies, DRI/HBI melting, energy efficiency and strategies for environmentally friendly steelmaking, demonstrated that the electric steelmaking route will be the central building block to a climate-neutral steel industry.
