IGF project 19068 N

Influence of thermal load changes on the service life of highly stressed furnace components made from metallic high temperature materials

The aim of the research project is the development of a calculation methodology for the determination of the service life consumption under superimposed oxidative-corrosive stress, creep stress and fatigue stress of highly stressed furnace components made of metallic high-temperature materials. With the aid of this calculation method, the user is enabled to evaluate characteristic stress collectives with regard to material damage. Thus, for example, it will be possible to compare a cycle with a given temperature difference with an equivalent operating time at a constant temperature. An application case of the calculation methodology is also the damage assessment of an operation at overtemperature (overheating) for a certain period of time. If reliable operating data records for past periods are available, an estimate of the expected remaining operating time can also be made for a comparable load profile. In addition to providing the equation inventory for dealing with the above questions, the required model parameters for typical materials used in furnace construction shall be determined. As a result of the research work, the provision of a transparent and comprehensible calculation process is aimed at, which — unlike a complex user program — can be modified with justifiable effort by the project partners from industry. The development of lifetime evaluation concepts and their verification by validation experiments on more complex structures provides important insights for material manufacturers and companies in industrial furnace construction. The extensive data base for the individual materials increases the safety in the component design and thus enables a better material utilization and consequently resource conservation.
