Increased surface area and service life of radiant heating pipes through the use of structured sheets
Radiant heating tubes are thermally loaded components for the atmospheric separation between combustion exhaust gas and furnace chamber atmosphere in combustion-heated industrial furnaces, Figure 1. The service life of radiant heating tubes is limited by inhomogeneous thermal, corrosive and mechanical loads. The transferred heat flux density is limited by upper limits of the thermal load.
Structured sheets are flat, lightweight construction elements reinforced by deformations, Figure 2. The bending stiffness of the sheet is increased, at the same time local stress maxima can be compensated by a accordion effect. The specific surface area of a structured sheet can be increased by up to 30 % based on its base area.
The aim of the research project is to increase the service life and the effective radiant surface of radiant heating tubes by manufacturing radiant heating tubes from structured sheet metal, Figure 3.
