Between June 26 and 28, 2023, the 40th International Heat Transfer Conference took place in the birthplace of St. Francis of Assisi. It was organised by colleagues from the nearby University of Perugia (Università degli Studi di Perugia). The IOB was represented by Franziska Ott, Justin Hauch and Eileen Trampe.
The conference offered a wide-ranging program on heat transfer, which was highlighted in three keynote lectures, 75 technical presentations and a poster session. Emphasis was placed on the numerical solution of fluid dynamic problems, heat and mass transfer for sustainable energy systems and the presentation of experimental techniques for the investigation of heat and mass transfer. Our colleagues presented the current state of their research in the following lectures:
- Investigation of a thermomechanical improved tangential fan geometry.
J Hauch, K Reich, D Büschgens, H Pfeifer - Numerical and experimental study to examine methods to increase the convectional heat transfer of recuperator tubes.
E Trampe, J Hauch, D Büschgens, H Pfeifer - Numerical investigation of radiative transfer during oxyfuel combustion of hydrogen and hydrogen enriched natural gas in the container glass industry.
F Ott, J Losacker, N Schmitz, H Pfeifer
In addition to the professional exchange, two guided tours of the historic city centre were conducted. Thus, the Basilica of San Francesco, the burial church of St. Francis of Assisi, could be marvelled at. In addition, the visitors were given an exclusive organ concert. The Rocca Maggiore castle dates back to 1173 and served as a fortification to defend Assisi. There, the magnificent view of Assisi and the surrounding countryside could be admired.
We thank our Italian colleagues for the great organisation and their hospitality.
