The IOB at the 6th CDI Innovation Meeting

On November 14, our colleague Katharina Rothhöft traveled to Ludwigshafen to take part in the 6th CDI Innovation Meeting. The event was organized by the Cluster Decarbonization of Industry (CDI) and took place at the premises of MVV Enamic Ludwigshafen GmbH. As part of the EE4InG2 project, Katharina took the opportunity to exchange ideas, network and discuss current research trends.

The CDI organizes meetings of its innovation groups twice a year. The aim is to promote exchange, develop new project ideas and promote networking between experts. Katharina is part of the “Process Heat” group, which deals with key issues relating to the decarbonization of industrial processes.

The event began at 17:00 with a series of lectures. The first lecture was dedicated to the use of heat pumps in industrial parks and their role in decarbonization. Another presentation was dedicated to the use of waste heat and the application and heating of thermal storage systems. IREES GmbH also presented a concept based on many years of experience with workshops.  The aim of this concept is to develop measures to increase energy efficiency in companies.

Following the presentations, the participants had the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of MVV Enamic Ludwigshafen GmbH’s Ludwigshafen Industrial Park. During the tour, the steam generation plants and the energy plants for electricity production were visited. After the tour, interactive workshops were held in smaller groups. The following topics were discussed: “Flexibilization and hybridization of process heat”, “Thermal storage” and “Information transfer”. Katharina took part in the “Flexibilization and hybridization of process heat” working group. The group developed the idea of creating an information event or brochure that shows how process heat can be made flexible. The event was concluded with a get-together.

We would like to thank the CDI and Kerstin Drechsler for organizing and running this successful event. We look forward to incorporating the knowledge gained into the EE4InG2 project.
