Group Manager Renewable energy and low CO2 process heating
Research
The main research interest of Christian Schwotzer is the use of renewable energy in industrial furnaces to reduce CO2 emissions in thermoprocesses as part of the decarbonisation of the iron and steel, non-ferrous, ceramic and glas industry with a special focus on the combined analysis of technical, ecological and economic aspects. He is the leader of the innovation network hybrid-heating and has authored or co-authored 50 contributions to journals, conference proceedings or books as well as numerous posters and presentations.
Fields of activity
- Reduction of CO2 process emissions by substitution of fossil fuels with green energy sources
- Hybrid and flexible heating concepts (e.g. fossil fuels/electricity)
- Techno-economic evaluations and feasibility studies
- Carbon footprint of industrial furnaces and thermoprocess technology
Projects und commitment
- CO2-neutral process heat generation (Study for the German Environment Agency, Umweltbundesamt – UBA)
- Innovation Network Hybrid-Heating
- Member of the advisory board of the cluster „utilization“ of the Research Network Hydrogen which is part of the Energy Research Networks
